fall inspiration!!!

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

Since I've moved I've had a lot of free time to browse and look out for new clothing, music and inspiration. Even though I have a clean slate I've reconnected with some old passions of mine such as drawing!!!! I've really been inspired by Tavi Gevinson, editor-and-chief of Rookie to sketch out my fall inspiration (a combo of old and new faves)

1. Urban aesthetic
While I was in Chicago I fell in love with the the classic and modern mix, but most importantly clashes in style, combining business attire, mod and sporty also very close to Marc Jacobs runway at the moment. But whether your a tourist or a student, I feel it's just necessary to be stylish and comfy this Autumn even out of the city, so get out the moto jackets and a cute pair of tennis shoes this weather won't last too long.

2. Natural mane
I call my hair a mane for a reason.... ITS REALLY CURLY. Although in the past I've repetitively said I hate my hair, I've found ways to show off the curls w/o the frizz and will probably not straighten my hair as much as I did last year. I kinda feel like my hair is my personality too (hopefully that doesn't sound crazy lol)

3. Doc your socks off
I love my docs and I always will, it's just that simple. Combat styled boots go with everything no matter what color.

4. Pins, buttons and bands
I have a rather small collection of unique thrift store pins a few that I pinned to my house key lanyard but I'm starting a new collection with purchases of unique homemade buttons from Etsy. I love pieces because they show a little bit more about yourself other than clothes, for example you could get your favorite band or shop on one and wear on a cute jean jacket, simple tee or a backpack, some of my personal fall favorites.

5. Tunes
Bringing out my two favorite bands that always suit the fall time, Vampire Weekend and Phoenix. Songs like Campus and Diane Young from VW remind me of the fact that I love being young and talk about lead singer Ezra's wardrobe, very different. I love it! Phoenix sends out feel good music in my opinion and fall weather also gives off this mood.

This summer i also found new music that also gives me a good autumn feel, first off the powerful sister group Haim Not only do these girls have a great motivational tune that makes me feel independent and powerful! (which is something I need being in a new city and school). Distressed band tees and varsity jackets, the girls rock the fall soft femme vintage biker look... literally (even in the summer!)

Mac Demarco is also a new artist I discovered this summer with his recent album "Salad Days." His songs are great to study to or in my case at the moment, motivate myself to write on this blog. His tunes are his soft voice and guitar strokes are soothing and give off a fun, youth and free spirited sound like VW.

6. Plaids and pleats
Plaid/flannel print coming back into the picture in many types of forms. The 90's Clueless print gives off an angst, sweet and sassy look, whether it's an oversized button up or a pleated tennis skirt. I'm definitely going back to school with the plaid skater skirt and a cozy sweater to be display the Cher Horowitz look well.

7. Old school charm
Like I said in the last section, the 90's are back and better than ever. My favorite pieces this fall all have the bits and pieces of the era. This includes key fall essentials, turtle necks, halters, baggy boyfriend jeans, denim jacket, fuzzy Spongebob's-esque eyelash sweaters, knee socks and chunky heels! Warm, comfy and runway ready, stores like Forever 21, American Apparel and Wildfox sell all of this. My mom always tells me "oh I had that when I was younger!" which makes me very frustrated because it is slightly more expensive and modernized then before.

8. Kendall Jenner for Teen Vogue
Quoted from Teen Vogue "...fashion's new IT GIRL", I totally stand by this, I've been a fan of the Cali raised cutie for the longest time and now she's doing an extraordinary job being a high fashion model. In the September issue she transforms into different characters wearing my favorite designers. From an urban look of Givenchy to soft, sweet and pastel look of Miu Miu, Kendall even pulls off the natural appeal which is my favorite thing about her. The girl is so kind, silly, and also confident... All in all, this is just her being herself! Kendall encourages me to be comfortable in my own skin for the new season.

sundays

Sunday, August 10, 2014

Do you ever just not want to leave home, or even your bed? This is how I feel every occasionally, Sundays. I always spend these days browsing the internet for things I don’t need to know or things I don’t need to buy. Especially……..clothing.
When online shopping I definitely over think, here are 5 thoughts and tips I have when online shopping.

1. “I need to save money.” – I usually say this to myself when I actually have saved up money for nothing in particular which is pretty silly. But there are very east ways to save money online shopping, leading to my next topic..

2. “Is this a trustworthy site” – Ordering off official stores is always okay. But online stores may scam you or not even send what you wanted or both….. So some tips are to read all reviews, even any not on that store. eBay is also a very popular shop, with various people and companies selling, but it’s also known for scamming. Best ways to avoid any of it is to check if it has the “Top Rated Plus” logo because those are the most trustworthy sellers that also usually have free shipping!!

3. “Is the shipping free” – Also an obvious, basically I have never payed for shipping but if you do, please check offers like spending 50 dollars or more to get free shipping, it comes in handy especially for clothing.

4. “Do I really need this” – This is one I think every time I go shop online. I think of what I have possibly coming up such as hanging out with friends, buying gifts or simple is it necessary to own at all. This leads me to another thought… “I deserve it, I think”

5. “Do your homework” – Being online can be very time consuming. You can start off researching and typing, then you take a “5 minute” break and end up buying the world or researching pictures of cats. (Even though it is summer.)

This is an old post from my old blog, I just thought it would be a relevant post for today.

pt. 2

Day 2 of Chicago I actually did have an outfit picture. The dress is a collared sleeveless plaid button up flannel dress from H&M, it is the most comfy thing ever! I paired it with black platform sandals also from H&M and a taupe Coach cross body.

The day was very.....busy. We started off back at the Michigan Ave Bridge to take a water taxi to Chinatown. On the ride there we got a glimpse of some of Chicago's attractions such as the Trump Tower, Civic Opera Building, the Chicago Tribune and the Willis Tower. Chinatown had skyline view of Chicago and little gift shops and restaurants.

Later that day we had a reservation for one of the city's popular and original eatery, Gino's East. Home to deep dish pizza and some other treats it was not my favorite. However I did enjoy seeing who has tried the pizza or have been to the restaurant.

To finish off the day we took a limo... long story, to Navy Pier to watch fireworks.

Day 3 and our final day we went to Lincoln Park to see the city skyline and the zoo, I loved the giraffes and this little arch in the park.

Yesterday I finished off a week long trip to Wisconsin Dells and Chicago. I went with my family from Canada, 11 of us in total (quite a hassle) but it's always a good time to see family, especially if you haven't seen them in a while. We started of with a 2 days in Wisconsin Dells which was honestly the most "new" life experiences for me were my weird cousin  forcing me to ride all the roller coasters at Mount Olympus, they were very tall and wooden, I also fed a goat. We did a lot of swimming the first 2 days of the trip, again a good time.

On the Wisconsin part of the trip i didn't really "dress up" fashionably or take pictures but I had to in Chicago, to me it's just naturally a fashionable, sleek, city that you should be dressed up.

After Wisconsin we headed to Chicago for a 3 day trip of sight seeing and sadly....some shopping but not enough!!! The first day I wasn't thinking and didn't charge my camera the night before, or take a picture of my outfit. I did however enjoy my favorite park, Millennium Park, and took a cute film pic with my Instax Mini at the stage they have there that I never actually took a peek at till this trip. Usual performances there are local schools or artists. I also got to see the new statues put up this year, statues are changed annually.

Other then that, we took a look at the Michigan Avenue Bridge which is again... visited every time we're in town.

Later that day we checked into our hotel, also on Michigan Ave, the Marriott hotel. Our room had a wall was a whole window and had a great view of Michigan..... but my favorite were the garlic fries that you could buy in the lobby, THEY WERE REALLY GOOD.
